Our volunteers make a real difference: inspiring positive change that ripples out through people’s lives, communities and the world.
Do you want to see more happiness
and kindness in the world?
Our volunteers come from all walks of life. They are friendly, kind, open-minded people who want to give some of their time to boost others' wellbeing. You don’t have to be an expert - or be happy all the time. If you are a warm and enthusiastic person that is more than enough to get started. | Image

What do our volunteers do?
Our volunteers bring people together for shared learning experiences, based on positive psychology, that boost the wellbeing of everyone involved. The main way of doing that is to run one of our courses ...
The amazing 6-week Happiness Habits course is designed to be run by pairs of volunteers like you. It features expert videos, science-backed exercises and the chance to form meaningful connections. It is a very impactful (many say life-changing) experience.
If running a 6-week course feels like too big of a first step, don't worry, you can also get involved by supporting a monthly group (they are a little bit less formal, while still having a huge positive impact!).
You'll be trained via our online Volunteer Training, supported through calls with our amazing team, supplied with top-notch materials and connected to an amazing community of happiness-loving global volunteers. It is a very rewarding experience!

You'll need to set aside a couple of hours for the training initially and a few more for planning your course or group and connecting with your co-volunteer. Then you'll need a couple of hours per session for facilitating (x6 weekly sessions for a course, or x1 session per month for a group).
Can anyone be an Action for Happiness volunteer?
Action for Happiness welcomes a wide range of applicants through our Volunteer Training.
You don't need to be a professional coach or trainer, as long as your motivations and character align with our values you have it in you to be an Action for Happiness volunteer.
You need to be 18 or over, and because we'll invest in you (our training and support is high quality), you need to see this not just as a short-term role but something you're likely to do more long-term.
We embrace diversity of all kinds and encourage a broad spectrum of people to apply.
Who will I get to connect with?
Our team - we have a specialist team supporting all our volunteers who are on hand to support you and help answer your questions wherever you are in our process.
Other volunteers - we have assembled a community of thousands of volunteers across the globe. Whether they are nearby or far away you can trust they all share your passion for making the world a happier place.
Your covolunteer - you'll work closely with one other person to deliver your course or group. As a result, a very deep bond will form as you progress through the process together.
Participants - our courses and groups attract a broad range of people - so meeting them can be a very rich experience. Meeting a whole new group of people and supporting their happiness journey is hugely rewarding.
How do I know it’s right for me?
Try out the Volunteer Training and decide for yourself.
We've designed it especially to help you answer questions like this as it explains thoroughly what being a volunteer involves and helps you reflect on your readiness.
We often find that one thing that holds people back is humility - people can sometimes feel like they are not experienced enough to step into a facilitation role. What they often don't realise is that this humility is actually a virtue in volunteers - making them more open, kind and aware of others.
The best way to find out if you are ready is to try - there is no commitment after doing the Volunteer Training and it may just inspire you more than you expect.
